Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Therapy Lunch and Learn

Please Join Us

Free and open to the public,

but participants must register in

advance. Lunch will be provided.

These programs are an opportunity for patients with

Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia, and

their family members, to learn about the benefits and risks

of DBS therapy from Albany Medical Center’s functional

neurosurgeon and movement disorder neurologist.

This class is a non-contact group exercise class designed for people with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders. It involves boxing movements, circuit training, and exercises that will help participants improve their strength and conditioning, balance, posture and coordination.

The prevalence of chronic illness diagnosis has increased in the United States in the last decade; a study by Johns Hopkins showed that 25% of the US population has been diagnosed with some sort of chronic illness. According to the Mayo Clinic "Aerobic exercise can help to improve your heart health and endurance and aid in weight loss. Strength training can improve muscle strength and endurance, make it easier to do daily activities, slow disease-related declines in muscle strength, and provide stability to joints. Flexibility exercises may help you to have optimal range of motion about your joints, so they can function best, and stability exercises may help reduce the risk of falls."
